Wednesday, 12 October 2011: Canberra will host a competitive eight race programme this Friday with a total of 96 horses accepting for the meeting.
The feature race of the day will be the Peter Blackshaw Real Estate Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1000m, with plenty of quality horses lining up.
The Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones- trained
Gorgeous Amelia
will be looking for a turn around in form after some disappointing results in metropolitan company, her last win coming on the Acton track back in August.
Ilringya
who took out the Bega and Narooma Cups last year drew barrier five in the race and will resume from a spell for a hit out before heading to metropolitan racing.
Another competitive race looks to be the FAW Building Supplies Benchmark 67 Handicap (1400m) which includes the Guy Walter-trained
Switmoa
and
Druid
from the Robert Price stable who ran well for second when first up last start.
The unbeaten
Party Dress
from the Bernie Howlett yard will resume from a spell in the Skyline Windows Benchmark 55 Handicap (1000m) and will look to continue her good two-year-old form.
The two maiden races have brought about capacity fields, including the well bred
Rock Speed
from the Matthew Dale yard who was purchased $200,000 as a yearling and was narrowly beat at Canberra two weeks ago when on debut.
The Youthcare Canberra and Students Day is set to bring in a good crowd with plenty going on off the track including Fashions On The Field competitions.
