Monday, 17 October 2011: The amazing success of Galileo’s progeny in 2011 has continued with his record for the year now standing at 13 individual Group or Grade 1 winners of 20 G1 races.
The
Coolmore stallion has enjoyed a phenomenal year with Frankel, Golden Lilac, Misty For Me, Roderic O'Connor and Treasure Beach winning classics and
Nathaniel scoring in the King George.
He had another two major wins over the weekend with his champion colt Frankel’s victory at Ascot on Saturday preceding a US turf victory for his classy filly Together at Keeneland.
Ironically both stars won races named after Queen Elizabeth.
After Frankel's imperious display at Ascot in the QE II Champions Mile the Aidan O'Brien-trained Together recorded her first US win in the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland.
The win was well deserved as Together has been placed in five G1 races including the G1 Fillies' Mile, G1 English 1000 Guineas, G21 Irish 1000 Guineas and G1 Matron Stakes.
She became Galileo's 13th individual Group or Grade 1 winner in 2011.
Together (Galileo x Shadow Song, by Pennekamp) was purchased for 280,000 guineas at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
A three-quarter sister to GI winner Jan Vermeer,
Together
has won three races and placed eight times from 16 starts.
She is the second foal out of Shadow Song, a winner in France and a half-sister to the G3 winner Midnight Air, dam of Oaks third Midnight Line, as well as to the dam of the G1 Prix de l'Abbaye winner Imperial Beauty.
Together's victory also gave her Irish breeders Camas Park Stud a G1 double over the weekend as another of their products is Danehill Dancer’s Oaks winner Dancing Rain, winner of Saturday's British Champions Fillies and Mares Stakes at Ascot.
Frankel
was bred by his owner Khalid Abdullah's Juddmonte Farms out of the Danehill mare Kind, a Listed winner from the Lancashire Oaks winner Rainbow Lake.
Kind is a half-sister to Tattersalls Gold Cup and Arlington Million winner Powerscourt (Sadler's Wells).
