Sunday, 15 January 2012: It's looking like Havre de Grace will be named the Horse of the Year tomorrow and that will be the third year in a row with a female horse getting the award.
It's not a terribly exciting lot of horses for these awards this time - there have been a lot of nice horses but since the retirement of Zenyatta, no super-star. Caleb's Posse is expected to get the double of champion male 3yo and champion male sprinter. Havre de Grace is expected to get the Champion Older Female and the Champion Older Male looks like Acclamation. The Champion Female Turf has
Dubawi Heights, Perfect Shurl and Stacelita but doesn't include Never Retreat.
The trainers has Bill Mott, Bob Baffert and Todd Pletcher nominated but neither Graham Motion or Steve Asmussen were nominated.
