Monday, 13 February 2012:

Joe Mennie claimed 5-43 as South Australia skittled Victoria for 220 after tea on day one of their Sheffield Shield clash at the MCG.

Andrew McDonald top-scored with 72 and shared a crucial eighth-wicket partnership of 95 with tailender Peter Siddle (41).

After winning the toss in fine conditions on Monday, the home side lost 5-96 in the pre-lunch session on a green-tinged pitch.

The last-placed Redbacks claimed another two quick wickets at the start of the middle session before McDonald and Siddle pushed Victoria's total beyond 200.

McDonald hit five fours and two sixes before he was dismissed in the second-last over before tea.

Mennie had bowled Chris Rogers for a first-ball duck in the third delivery of the match. The former NSW junior struck again in his second over when Aaron Finch was caught at third slip, also for a duck.

Rob Quiney (45) and Cameron White (31) added 74 for the third wicket but Victoria lost 3-17 shortly before lunch.

White was caught at bat-pad at 3-79 off the bowling of second-gamer Carl Tietjens (2-58) who also removed Quiney lbw four balls later.

Mennie bowled Peter Handscomb for six in the last over before the interval.

Ryan Carters and Will Sheridan fell cheaply as Victoria suffered a middle-order collapse of 5-39.

McDonald took control of the situation for the Bushrangers, reaching his half-century off 85 deliveries and moving to 71 after hitting spinner Tom Cooper for two successive sixes over long on.

The former Test allrounder was out one run later, caught behind by Adam Crosthwaite who was keeping up to the stumps to paceman Chadd Sayers at 8-213.

Sayers removed Siddle caught at second slip at 9-220. Mennie, 23, claimed the well-deserved milestone of his second five-wicket haul in debut season when Jayde Herrick was caught at second slip.

Mennie's 5-43 came off 21.1 overs including eight maidens.
