Trainer Gary Portelli has informed Racing NSW stewards that
Somepin Anypin
trod on a nail over the weekend.
He has an issue with his near hind hoof and as a result was not an acceptor when the final field for the Newmarket was declared today.
Portelli advised that Somepin Anypin has been treated for the injury but has not missed any fast work and he plans to gallop him on Wednesday with the aim of running in the Canterbury Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.
A classy field of 14 has been declared for the Newmarket with
Dao Dao
and Kiwi star
He's Remarkable
sharing the topweight of 58kg.
Other acceptors include
Straight Albert
,
Fast Clip
,
Shannara
and the Victorian-trained
Under The Eiffel
with trainer
Tony Vasil engaging Blake Shinn for the mount.
Stewards have also received a report from trainer Guy Walter after the poor performance of his Group One winner
Doctor Doom
in last Saturday's Randwick Guineas.
Walter advised stewards that Doctor Doom had pulled up well and a veterinary check including an endoscopic examination has revealed no abnormality.
Walter said he could offer no explanation for Doctor Doom's performance other than some use was made of the gelding early in the race and he feels the three-year-old may be now better suited over longer journeys.
Walter has indicated that he intends to work Doctor Doom on Thursday and again next Tuesday as he continues his preparation for his planned next start in the G1 Rosehill Guineas on Saturday week.
