Yosei Out To Prove Doncaster Credentials

Wednesday, 21 March 2012: Caulfield trainer Stuart Webb is seriously considering a run in next month's Doncaster Handicap with stable star and three-time Group 1 winner Yosei.

The classy four-year-old has two chances to prove her Doncaster credentials, starting in Saturday's Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m), and Webb was quietly confident his mare could run a bold race over the famous Randwick mile.

“She has 52kg which is very appealing if we are going into it with good form,” Webb told Sky Sports Radio on Wednesday morning.

“It will be two weeks into the Queen Of The Turf after Saturday, and if her form warrants she will have two weeks into the Doncaster.”

Yosei  has been only fair in two runs back from a spell this preparation, although Webb has taken plenty of positives from his three-time Group 1 winner.

She was crowded out of it at Caulfield first-up in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) when 13th, and never quite wound up earlier this month in the listed Super Saturday Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

Webb expected improvement in Sydney.

“She's always been quite good up there [Sydney],” Webb said.

“She had a gallop the reverse way on the steeple grass at Caulfield yesterday. She will come up on Thursday night then have a trot around on Friday morning and be ready for Saturday.

“First up in the Oakleigh Plate was very good. She went to the line with no room to extend and was only beaten three-and-a-half [lengths] and her sectionals were very good.

“She has had a couple of really good gallops since her 1400m at Flemington. I think we are just about where we need to be.”

Yosei was rated a $21 chance to win the Coolmore Classic on Wednesday afternoon with TAB Sportsbet fixed odds.

Streama  was favourite at $2.90 with Steps In Time  ($4.60), Red Tracer  ($6.50), Secret Admirer  ($9.50) and King's Rose  ($9.50) also in single figures.
