Slipper Plunge On Ashokan

Wednesday, 4 April 2012: Skyline Stakes winner Ashokan, one of three runners from the John O'Shea stable, has been the target of a Golden Slipper plunge today with one TAB Sportsbet punter backing the colt to win over half a million dollars.

The punter placed $15,000 at odds of $35 to collect $525,000 on Ashokan.

He then had $3000 to run a place in the Golden Slipper at odds of $6.40, ensuring a small profit on his total outlay if Ashokan finishes second or third.

Ashokan  forced his way into the Golden Slipper when he beat Raceway in the Skyline Stakes at Randwick on March 17 at only his second start.

Ashokan drifted from $26 to $35 after drawing barrier 14 but is back into $26 following today's support.

Ashokan is drawn between his two stablemates Faustus (gate 13) and Shelford (15) in what was a disappointing barrier draw outcome for the O'Shea team.

Faustus  has also had his supporters at long prices, firming from $126 to $71 since the barrier draw.

He was singled out today with one win bet of $1000 at $101.

The biggest bet laid after the barrier draw on Tuesday was $20,000 at $6 on Gai Waterhouse's unbeaten colt Pierro  after he drew the coveted rails gate.
