Monday, 30 April 2012: Talented juvenile Western Hero all but clinched the title of Tasmania's best two-year-old when he powered to an impressive win in the Autumn Classic over 1200m at Tattersall's Park in Hobart on Sunday.
Western Hero (Brendon McCoull) settled midfield behind a hot pace set by the Gary White-trained stablemates Smart Catch and The Welshman.
McCoull had Western Hero parked three-wide from the 700m but the gelded son of West Quest was always travelling like the winner.
When McCoull called on him to extend he quickly collared the leaders and cruised to the post to score by a length from Keep The Cash with Our Clangalang.
It was Western Hero's fourth win from only eight starts with his other feature wins coming in the Alexandra Plate on debut and the Premier Classic at his previous start.
This latest win took his stake earnings to just over $110,000.
Western Hero is trained at Brighton by Terry Evans who was not at the track owing to his commitment to attend yearling sales in Melbourne.
