Monday, 30 April 2012: Yin Jie's debut win in the $95,000 IRT Juvenile Stakes (1200m) brought yet another feather to the bulging cap of trainer Theo Kieser as a master of two-year-olds on Sunday.

The South African trainer had already notched the first two Legs of the seven-race Singapore Golden Horseshoe series for juveniles with
Griffin
and
Zeus Thunder
, not to mention his dominance of the series at its launch last year with
Kaiser
.
Though his latest baby,
Yin Jie
, had already given a glimpse of his ability in two easy barrier trial wins, the field in the fifth Leg of the series was headed by impressive last-Leg winner
Super Good
, who hails from the nursery of the other King of the Kids, Michael Freedman.
Super Good, a colt by
Fastnet Rock
and a NZ$170,000 purchase by the Joy N Happiness Stable at last year's Karaka sales, was obviously the pick of the crop given his outright $8 favourite tag, but the danger represented by
Yin Jie, a Gold Centre colt who also fetched a tidy sum of NZ$100,000, but as a Ready-To-Run two-year-old, was certainly not overlooked in the market as reflected by his second-favourite odds of $13.
Ridden by Joao Moreira,
Yin Jie came off a handy spot behind leader
Kaiser Bright
(Alan Munro) before attacking the line with plenty of purpose upon straightening. Super Good (Stephen Baster) looked a little held up then, but once he got into the clear, he did his best work at the finish but
Yin Jie was just not letting up.
On the outside, another major threat loomed up as
Pitstop
(Azhar Ismail) started to put in the big bounds, but the winning post arrived on time for
Yin Jie who hit the line first with three-quarter-length to spare from Pitstop, who denied Super Good second place by a mere nose. The winning time was 1min 11.82secs.
With Kieser currently at the sales in Melbourne, Moreira took centre stage at the post-race interviews.
“When Theo offered me the ride, he told me this horse was something special, and I should take the ride,” said the runaway premiership leader.
“I actually knew the horse already had plenty of ability as he had given me a very good feel when I rode him in a trial three weeks ago.
“He jumped very well out of the gates and though he was still a little green, he still showed plenty of pace to sit right beside the leader.
“Once he got on the bit, he came back nicely for me. He showed he had a feisty heart in the home straight when the two horses came on his outside.
“He fought so hard all the way to the line. I had plenty of respect for Super Good before the race but I was confident my horse was good enough to beat him.”
Moreira heaped praise upon the work done by Kieser on his two-year-olds.
“His record speaks for itself. Theo has consistently produced good results with his two-year-olds,” said Moreira.
“This one is another good example. I would also like to thank Theo and the owners for having put me on him.”
Yin Jie races in the same lime and yellow colours carried by another one of Kieser's up-and-comer,
Yin Xin
, a six-time winner from 10 starts and stakes earner of more than $300,000. They are both raced by the Tarsus Stable.
