NSW-based syndicators Australian Bloodstock purchased Mawingo (Tertullian x Montfleur by Sadler's Wells) from his German breeder Gestut Schlenderhan last year with a view to running the stallion in the 2012 Caulfield and Melbourne Cups and he is now fully qualified thanks to his Brisbane success.

The same group had previously purchased 2011 Melbourne Cup placegetter and he inspired Australian Bloodstock to continue to seek German stayers for racing in Australia.

Last year Mawingo  won the G3 Bavarian Classic in Munich and finished fourth to Waldpark in the G1 Deutsches Derby for his owner-breeder Gestüt Schlenderhan. He has won four of his 10 career starts and been placed a further four

He is by Tertullian, a son of Miswaki from the family of Galileo and Sea The Stars. The stallion's best progeny include German 2000 Guineas and Hong Kong Cup winner Irian and dual German G3 winner
Russian Tango.

Mawingo is out of the Sadler's Wells mare Montfleur, a half-sister to US G2 winner Mr Mellon (Red Ransom) and Japanese G3 winner Seeking The Best (Seeking The Gold), now standing at stud in Venezuela.

Montfleur's dam Mackie (Summer Squall) was a G1-placed half-sister to Kentucky Derby winner Sea Hero. New Vinery sire Congrats (A.P. Indy) and the late champion sprinter Mozart (Danehill) are also close relations.
