Monday, 28 May 2012: More Than Ready's Group 1 winning colt Gimmethegreenlight has been retired to stud in South Africa after suffering a ligament injury.

Australian-bred Gimmethegreenlight will stand at Varfontein Stud north-east of Cape Town at Paarl beside leading US bred sire Caesour (Nureyev).

Trainer Justin Snaith rates Gimmethegreenlight the best horse he's ever trained.

“I will be sending my own mares to him,” Snaith said. “The injury isn't serious but it ruled out the Durban July.”
Gimmethegreenlight  (More Than Ready – Yes She Can Cancan by Canny Lad) is currently South Africa's top-rated 3YO colt on 117.

He won the G1 Queens Plate during the Kenilworth carnival in January and then finished third behind champion mare Igugu in the G1 J&B Met.

Vinery sold Gimmethegreenlight as a weanling for $155,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions National Sale. He has raced for top South African owner Hassan Adams.

His older half-sister Ofcourseican (Mossman) won the G1 Coolmore Classic at Rosehill in March.

Their dam Yes She Can Cancan, bred by Raheen Stud in Queensland, is a half-sister to four time Brisbane winner Stepping (Dodge).

Adams decided not to yield to offers from overseas.

“Ever since he won the Queen's Plate we have had calls from breeders expressing interest in his stud career” commented Adams, himself a breeder with over 40 mares at stud.

Susan Kalmanson of Varsfontein Stud purchased a large share in the colt to secure the right to stand him at her stud.

More Than Ready  is the sire of almost 100 stakes winners and over US$85 million in stakes.
