Wednesday, 30 May 2012: There are 37 horses remaining in the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap after the closure of first acceptances, easing the pressure on some borderline cases to make the final field.

As expected there has been a high rate of attrition among the entries with the numbers dropping from 109 initial nominations.

Buffering  now heads the weights for the 1400m feature at Eagle Farm on June 9 withy 57.5kg but weights will have to be raised half a kilo when the field is declared next week to meet the requirement of a minimum 58kg topweight.

Doomben Ten Thousand winner Sea Siren  is a first acceptor, increasing the expectation that she will take her chance in the Stradbroke despite her 1.5kg penalty increasing her weight to 54kg.

The surprise inclusion is Scone Guineas winner Pampelonne , who was announced as a none runner after he failed behind Sea Siren in the Ten Thousand last Saturday.

Among the horses high on the order of entry to join those already ruled out of the Stradbroke were the retired Beaded, We're Gonna Rock, Facile Tigre, Star Of Octagonal, Fillydelphia, Under The Eiffel and Punch On.

Exciting three-year-old Mental  has advanced to 22nd on the order of entry after the declaration of first acceptances and now looks certain to make the final field, pending his performance in Saturday's Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm.
