Friday, 8 June 2012: Mr Park, the winner of 19 of his 21 races in South Korea, suffered a major injury in his 22nd race and was later euthanised.
Foaled in 2007, Mr Park
was third on debut and then won a Korean record 17 consecutive races. There
was a special exhibition to celebrate this feat and his owner, Kwak Jong Soo,
was amazed to see the huge turnout at this event. In his last race, which had been seen as a lead up to the bigger events in the season, he carried a hefty impost of 63 kgs. His great rival Tough Win carried a similar impost on another race on the same card and suffered a bleeding attack after his race.
Mr Park - or Park-shi as he
was popularly known - suffered a complete rupture of the distal sesamoid ligament and there is no possibility of any quality of life following this type of accident. The full story and details of Mr Park's career can be found at www.koreanracing.wordpress.com.
As Gyonmaman who wrote the story says "he
was special to a lot of people".
