Promising Colt To Destroy Doomben Rivals

Monday, 11 June 2012: The feature race at Doomben today is the Channel Seven Dalrello Stakes where the promising colt Destruction looks very hard to beat based on last Saturday's results.

The colt, prepared by John Thompson, comes into the race as a winner of his only start and the form from it certainly looks good for today's assignment.

Destruction  is a son of Fastnet Rock from the four times stakes winning mare Storm Signal.

After some impressive trials he was well in the market over 1200m at Rosehill on debut late last month.

After drawing wide, he settled just worse than midfield and turned there before angling to the centre of the track.

Despite being green and shifting out, he still had enough ability to run on for a half length win over Kabayan.

That youngster, a Haradasun gelding prepared by Gai Waterhouse, then raced in Last Saturday's Group 1 T.J. Smith and almost upset odds-on favourite Sizzling with a nose loss.

Thompson has decided upon the easier option for Destruction and saved him for today's Listed race over 1200m where he will be all the rage.

The colt's winning debut rated strongly but he is also expected to be much improved on that.

If he can get through the soft ground he is clearly the one to beat again.

Country trained galloper Qfighter  was an impressive debut winner and can measure up here.

The grey colt, a son of the stakeswinning mare Suzy Grey, made his debut over 900m on the Gold Coast where he was strongly supported into odds on after a solid Rosehill trial.

And he didn't let his followers down, settling back and deep before striding to the lead and running away with a three length win.

He did it tough but ambled away and had plenty on his rivals there.

This is a far tougher assignment but he can only be further improved for this race.

Leading rider Glen Colless is aboard and he looks the clear danger to the favourite.

Holey Gadoley , prepared by Pat Duff at Deagon, is fitter for one run from a let up and should take running down.

The gelding is by far the most experienced in the field having already raced 11 times, for two wins and three minors.

All his good form has come over the autumn scoring here at 1350m, then finishing runner up at the same track and trip, before finishing runner up at Eagle Farm over 1200m.

He then scored there over 1400m before a let up.

Returning in the Listed Phoenix Stakes, he led but was headed in the straight and faded to finish ninth.

He will be fitter for that, comes back in journey and will take running down.

Obliviate  is also a speed type and has won two of his three starts.

His wins have been in much easier grade but he should be further improved and give a sight at each way odds here.

Platinum State  showed good promise in his first campaign and should be hard to hold out.

If he has come on, he could be hard to stop over the final stages.
