Racing Queensland Resignations And Appointments

Friday, 15 June 2012: Racing Queensland Limited has announced the resignation of directors Wayne Milner and Bradley Ryan,

They advised the board of their intention to resign effective July 31, 2012.

Mr Ryan and Mr Milner had been members of the RQL Board from the time RQL was created on July 1, 2010 through the merging of the control bodies of the three codes of racing in Queensland.

Both Mr Ryan and Mr Milner had also been members of the previous thoroughbred control body, Queensland Racing Limited.

As a result of the changes to the strategies and directions of RQL that occurred with the recent change of State Government, RQL experienced a number of board and senior management resignations.

Mr Ryan and Mr Milner determined that they could best serve the racing industry in Queensland by continuing on the RQL Board until the incoming directors had sufficient time to be fully conversant with the complex business that is Racing Queensland Limited.

RQL chairman Kevin Dixon said the board of RQL appreciates Mr Ryan and Mr Milner remaining on the board and providing this transition period.

“The board now feels comfortable that they have had adequate handover. We thank Mr Milner and Mr Ryan for their selfless interest in the wellbeing of racing in Queensland,” Mr Dixon said.

RQL also announced that it did not intend making any further additions to the Interim Board at this time, but would now operate with the current Interim Board pending the introduction of legislation leading to the formation of code specific statutory control bodies, as well as an All Codes Board.

Racing Queensland also announced the restructuring of the RQL integrity division, together with some key appointments.

Wade Birch has been confirmed as Chief Steward of All Codes, as well as Chief Steward of Thoroughbreds.

Recognising that stewarding in Queensland is in a development phase, RQL is proud to announce the appointment of Allan Reardon to the newly created position of Director of Steward Development.

Reardon brings with him a wealth of knowledge having served as a senior steward on the Racing NSW panel, deputy chairman of stewards in Victoria and chairman of stewards in Queensland.

Chief steward of thoroughbreds Wade Birch has welcomed the appointment of Reardon.

“Allan possesses the experience, attitude and approach to the role of stewarding that will serve to enhance the professional development of the stewards currently operating on the Queensland panel,” said Birch.

Reardon will commence his position as the director of steward development on July 30.

The previous position of Director of Integrity will not be filled at this time, pending changes to be implemented through legislative changes that may be made in the future,
