“I'm excited about the prospect of last year's winner Warrior Within coming back to defend his crown next Sunday," said Tweed River Jockey Club chairman Bernie Quinn.
"I took it upon myself to have a chat with his trainer Bruce Hill a few weeks ago and at that stage a Murwillumbah Cup defence was on the cards.
“Warrior Within used his Cup win last year as a launching pad for his assault on the Grafton Cup and he won that too.
"I suppose that's always something trainers think about when their horses compete in the Murwillumbah Cup as a win guarantees a start in the Grafton Cup and the big bucks on offer there.”
Bruce Hill confirmed that he will nominate
Warrior Within
for the Murwillumbah Cup after his third in last Saturday's Ipswich Cup and then assess the handicaps.
“It depends what weight they give him. I'll nominate him and see," Hill said.
“I'm not worried about the weather or anything else.
"He won last year on a wet track. It just comes down to how much weight they want him to carry – not too much, I'm hoping.
“He'll definitely be going back to Grafton for the Cup."
Warrior Within has won $283,800 in prizemoney in 59 career starts, with 10 wins and 11 placing to his credit.
Trading Secrets qualified for a Murwillumbah Cup start when he took out last Friday's Cup Preview at Grafton in an exciting three-way finish from Blissful Honour and Toucan Ukelele.
