Monday, 18 June 2012: As they say in the song and even the weather may cooperate for Tuesday's exciting card, starting off with a bang with Frankel in the first race.
Frankel is a very impressive and very exciting horse. There's no point comparing him to Black Caviar as it is like comparing apples and pears - equally delicious. He opens proceedings in the G1 Queen Anne Stakes over the straight 1600 with 10 other horses in the mix. He's odds-on of course and then you go to 5/1 for Excelebration, an excellent horse in his own right but has had the misfortune to come up against Frankel in many of his races. He's 5/1. Strong Suit is having his first run since November so is 12/1, with Helmet, now with Godolphin's Mohammed Al Zarooni, at 33/1 along with Side Glance.
That's followed by the King's Stand G1 over 1000m straight and here we have our own Ortensia who's on 9/2 following her great win in Dubai. Bated Breath broke the track record at Haydock on his last outing but he may not run - depends on the weather. He's on 5/1 with French runner Wizz Kid. Hong Kong's Little Bridge, with Zac Purton to ride, is on 8/1, and Joy and Fun 12/1. Luke Nolan is going to ride Medicean Man on 33/1.
The St jame's Palace Stakes is probably the weakest of these G1s - it's on the 1600m round course wich is supposed to have some soft going areas. The O'Briens combine with Power, 3/1, and Hermival and Most Improved are on 7/1, with an interesting runner Dragon Pulse, who is trained in France by Mikael Delzangles for Singaporean owner Dr. K.C. Tan. He's on 10/1 and worth a go.
The Coventry Stakes is G2 for the 2yos over 1200m, with Jim Bolger's unbeaten Dawn Approach on 7/2. The O'Briens have Cristoforo Colombo at 5/1 and the Richards Sir Prancelot at 6/1.
