Tuesday, 26 June 2012: Perth star Luckygray headed a treble of winners for Queensland sire Bradbury's Luck around Australia last Saturday.
Robert Heathcote's progressive mare
Fire Up Fifi
started the day in super fashion for Bradbury's Luck when she won at Eagle Farm.
She was followed by the win of the Bradbury's Luck 2YO filly
Avaladyluck
in the $150,000 QTIS 600 Plate at Rockhampton.
Luckygray
put the icing on the cake by taking out the G3 Hyperion Stakes at Belmont.
The Gino Poletti-trained star has now won more than $1million and made history as the first horse to win Perth's winter treble of the G3 Roma Cup (1200m), G3 Belmont Sprint (1400m) and G3 Hyperion Stakes (1600m) in the space for four weeks.
The victory has assured him of being crowned Western Australia's Champion Racehorse for the season with seven victories from eight starts including 5 at Group level.
Bred by Colin McWhinney, Luckgray has made his way through the sales ring on two occasions, fetching $31,000 as an weanling at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale and later $46,000 as a Perth Magic Millions yearling.
He is one of two stakes winners by Bradbury's Luck, a Listed winning son of Redoute's Choice, who is now among the top three Queensland sires by prizemoney this season..
Luckygray is the only foal to race for his dam, the four times winner Damah Lady (Mukaddamah), who was served last spring by Mutawaajid (Redoute's Choice).
Damah Lady is a half-sister to the G2 Todman Stakes winner Diego Garcia from a family that includes G1 winners Tolerance (Better Boy), Pterylaw (Better Boy), Prunella (Convamore), Strawberry Fair (Whiskey Road) and Best Western (Bletchingly).
The win also catapulted his sire, Bradbury's Luck, into the top three on the Queensland Sire premiership, which is led by the reigning Champion Sire of the state, and fellow Glenlogan Park barn-mate, Show A Heart.
