Educated Melbourne Cup money?
Last year's Melbourne Cup runner-up, Red Cadeaux, has already come in for good support in this year's race. Even though the Melbourne Cup won't be held until the first Tuesday in November, one punter believes Red Cadeaux can go one better than his effort last year. They have outlaid $3,000 @ $26 for a potential $78,000 collect! The current Melbourne Cup favourite with TAB Sportsbet is defending champion Dunaden, who is $16 and marginally ahead of last year's third placegetter, Lucas Cranach.

The TAB's rewards program, the Number One Club, is definitely worth joining if you're already not a member. For every dollar you spend you earn points which can go towards a number of great rewards including free bets, VIP corporate hospitality at sporting events and 'money can't buy' experiences. Also, when you're a member of the Number One Club you get the chance to become an owner for the day. The Number One Club stable contains several gallopers and harness horses and every time they hit the track, members of the Number One Club are chosen to be their owners for the day. Getting to experience all the thrills and privileges of being an owner for a day, they also get to share in any prize winnings from the day. So far there has been over $260,000 in winnings distributed to members that have been owners for a day! This week, the stable will have two animals in action commencing tomorrow with Number One Gun lining up at Gosford. Reports from trainer John O'Shea suggest the son of Mossman is ready to run a big race despite coming up with barrier 16. Number One Gun will be contesting the Hahn Premium Light Handicap (1100 metres), which is set to run at 4:34pm. Each of his five owners for a day – Adam W, Paul P, Philip N, David G and Nick K – are in line to collect $1,590 in prize winnings each should he salute the judge. The stable's attention will then turn to Tabcorp Park Menangle on Saturday when consistent pacer The Big Mach goes around in the third event. Trainer-driver David Thorn has the gelding firing on all cylinders and he'll be looking to go one better than his second placing at the same track last week. Good luck to The Big Mach and his five Number One Club members for a day – Michael B, Raymond N, Craig P, Elaine A and Raymond G – who could receive $1,350 each in prize winnings should he get the cash.
