Gun to prove Number One

Tuesday, 24 July 2012: The improving Number One Gun looks well placed in today's Digitaloffice Technology Benchmark 70 Handicap (1200m) at Wyong.

A last start winner at Gosford in the same grade, the John O'Shea trained gelding has his rise in the handicap offset by the 2kg claim for apprentice Chad Schofield, in top form having recently out-ridden his provincial claim.

Having been wide early at Gosford Number One Gun  was sent forward, leading into the turn, and kicking away strongly on straightening. The margin on the line was a cosy 1.8 lengths with the winner looking to have plenty up the sleeve.

He backs up quickly today, just six days after that win, but he is fit and in-form and looks to have found the right race.

The danger looks to be another last start winner in Hydropower . The Chris Waller trained gelding retuned from a spell lead throughout and win a three-year-old No Metro Wins Handicap at Canterbury.

He looks likely to take it up again today with Number One Gun expected to be happy to play stalker under his big weight.

Hydropower will need to take a good step forward to come out on top today but having had just the four starts he is clearly open to it.

Smart Patrol  is another who needs to take a step forward is he is to be winning today but he is racing in good form this campaign and certainly wouldn't shock.

He was able to follow up a Gosford maiden win with another success, in Class 2 company here at Wyong, before measuring up in town last time out.

Booked Out , running for the Anthony Cummings yard, looks to round out the chances.

The last start maiden winner at Kembla Grange was well supported on that occasion and he should take improvement from that win. He's certainly one for the multiples.
