Saturday, 28 July 2012: The Singapore Turf Club will be allocating stables to Sonny Yeoh Kheng Soon from 1 September 2012.
The 50-year-old Penang-born Singaporean Permanent Resident is taking over from his brother Dr Yeoh Kheng Chye, 70, who has decided to retire at the end of the year after training in Singapore for 28 years.
Sonny began his career as a syce with multiple-champion trainer Dato Seri Teh Choon Beng in Penang in 1982 before joining British trainer Michael Jarvis in Newmarket for two years.
He soon became Jarvis' assistant-trainer before returning to the Malayan Racing Association circuit in 1984 to help Dr Yeoh after the former veterinarian secured a trainer's licence.
Yeoh has since been assistant-trainer to his brother, during which time he saw his yard claim feature race successes such as the Raffles Cup in 1992 with Hard Rock and more recently the Group 2 Queen Elizabeth II Cup in 2009 with Restored.
