Atomic Force bound for Melbourne campaign

Monday, 30 July 2012:

Dual Group One-winning sprinter Atomic Force will be an early spring visitor to Melbourne after proving his fitness with a barrier trial win over Secret Admirer at Randwick on Monday.

The winner of the 2011 Galaxy and the Railway Stakes in New Zealand on New Year's Day, Atomic Force was ruled out of the autumn with a knee strain.

Nash Rawiller, who rode him to his Group One wins, partnered the Darren Smith-trained gelding in the trial and said he won with a bit in hand.

"Today he went through his gears and let down and obviously won the trial with a little bit in hand," Rawiller said on owner Dynamic Syndications' website.

"I would have liked something to have been chasing me a bit closer to the line but he feels good, he did everything right today and I couldn't be happier.

"I think it will do his confidence the world of good coming back from injury."

Dynamic said a decision on his immediate future would be made in the next few days with the plan to send him to Melbourne later in the week to get used to being trained in the opposite direction.

The options for his return are a Listed 1000m race at Moonee Valley on August 25 or The Heath, a Listed race over 1100m at Caulfield a week later which he won last year.

Runner-up in the trial was another Group One winner Secret Admirer who is being set for the Caulfield Cup with a possible defence of her Epsom Handicap title along the way.

Other trial winners included New Zealand Derby runner-up Rock `N' Pop who is now with the Gai Waterhouse stable and also headed towards the Epsom in the first week of October.

hi Steve, good luck with AF. If I am guessing right I think you and I might be in a horse that ran 4th in a Listed race at Randwick on debut to promise the World. Four wins not too bad though! Prefer to keep anonimity but good to see you on the site. ”

Would be good to see him get up over the $1M mark. Good honest horse; 21 top 3 placings out of 34. If he comes up again, he will be very competitive in the big ones. ”

cheers guys,

AF is in Melbourne preparing for a crack at some nice sprints.
will kick off either 25/8 1000m at the valley or 1/9 in the slickpics SWP.
We then will go to the McEwan 1000.
Aim this prep is to have a crack at Manikato then if he is well and holding form have a shot at the Patinack.
With BC & HL out the top end of the $ will be on offer.
He is now 7yo now so we are hoping that he can still be at his best and not on the way down.
Very exciting if he can hit form. ”

All the best for the upcoming campagne.AF has been an easy horse to follow and back.He always gives his best and at remarkable prices. ”

One would think that the G3 WFA Missile Stakes would have been a perfect first up race for Atomic Force. (easy pickings I would have thought)

BUT

As we all know, Darren is NO dill.

Hmmmmm, should we glean from this that the horse must be going EXTRA well.
AND
That he obviously thinks that he has bigger fish to fry in Melbourne. ”

good on you steve, all the best for the future with atomic force, im sure everyone who has had anything to do with the sport would love to own a horse like him, forget the knockers, not many horses win 2 races, let alone 2 groups 1s ”

Posted by steve, on 7-8-2012  5:05:23 PM

I own a share in him and thank god I do...
have had plenty of slow ones but this fellow has given me lots of fun and put some good coin in the bank.
Bring on the B grade Group 1s in the spring!

The percentage of horses that win a Group 1 run per how many start in a race each year in this country, is around 0.22% isn''t it?

I''d like to own a B-grader like this one please. ”

Deana you obviously know nothing about thoroughbreds. Not everyone is Black Caviar!
Not one journo has said he was A grade, he''s just better than average and been placed well in races.
Sounds like maybe you own a horse thats a Z grader, so you feel the need to knock others better than that. Pretty low! ”
