COFFS HARBOUR: Gutsy Sprint Win By Symposium

Friday, 3 August 2012: Versatile local gelding Symposium left trainer Trevor Hardy with concerns after he won his second successive Daniel Baker Memorial Sprint at Coffs Harbour on August 2.

Symposium's easy one and three quarter length win over Dinky Mink was a gutsy effort as the horse was lame after the race.

Top Melbourne jockey Danny Nikolic rode Symposium and told Hardy he almost asked stewards to scratch the six-year-old at the barrier.

'I was worried about how he felt going to the gates but he got better as he warmed up at the gates so went ahead with it,” Nikolic said.

However Nikolic reported that he was again concerned with Symposium's action after the race and Hardy confirmed he was mildy lame in a foreleg when he cooled down.

“He has had issues and I will get him checked out to mke sure there is no serious problem,: Hardy said.

“He was always going for a spell after this race anyway.”
