Tuesday, 23 October 2012: Cox Plate favourite Pierro will jump from barrier seven in the capacity 14-horse field for Saturday’s Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.
Pierro is one of a trio of three-year-olds in the weight-for-age championship with Proisir and All Too Hard also representing the younger brigade.
All Too Hard has barrier three while Pierro's Gai Waterhouse-trained stablemate Proisir has barrier 10.
Second favourite Green Moon will start from gate five while the other leading contender, New Zealander Ocean Park has barrier nine.
Waterhouse chose barrier 11 for her third runner More Joyous, while Linton was left with gate 14 as the last horse drawn.
The three-year-olds carry just 49.5kg with Corey Brown riding Pierro, Craig Newitt to steer Proisir and Chris Munce partnering All Too Hard.
Queensland star Buffering has drawn barrier one for Friday night’s Group One Sportingbet Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley.
A field of 10 will take part in the $750,000 Group One sprint over 1200 metres on the eve of the Cox Plate.
Buffering, Queensland’s Horse of the Year for last season, has won his only two starts this spring including the Moir Stakes first-up at Moonee Valley before his win in the Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield.
Dual G1 winner Sea Siren will resume from gate five while We’re Gonna Rock has the outside barrier.

You reckon MJ would''ve been four wide most of the way if Gai decided to pick up marble No1?
MJ''s race was over before they got to the half way mark and it had nothing to do with her not being able to get the distance. ”

For a non 2000m horse, she did well to thrash the best 2000m horse of the autumn!!! ”

More Joyous is not a 2000m horse pure and simple.John Singleton should stick to what he knows and let the trainer do the work they know. No way did that alley affect the result.Should be interesting to see how timeforms stood up. LOL. ”

Divine....the only way Gai''s horses win is with team riding, & Jock I give up, name one who is better, and fit and well presently....the sprinting ranks are thin on the ground, I agree. Some years are like that, take out BC & HL and there isn''t much left, a whole bunch have been retired, or dead. ”

I think the way this race could be run, it will be set up for Ocean Park, to get the dream run. I want one of Gais to win, but Proisir, is a very hit and miss beginner, question mark on Pierro, hard run last week, More Joyous, not realy trained to run a hard 2040m, would of loved her to had a 2000m run under her belt. OP just seems to tick all the boxes. Hope I am wrong. ”

Looking at the speed map, if GH miss the start again, you will have Proisir leading with MJ outside and Pierro behind. They could go slow halfway and it looks like a Gai trifecta. ”

What a shocker, surely they can''t be the best sprinters around at the moment can they. ”
