Powell is returning to Singapore this week after being granted a six-month visiting jockeys’ permit by the Singapore Turf Club.
Powell, 35, answered a call from trainer Don Baertschiger to replace regular stable jockey Eddie Wilkinson, who has relinquished his MRA licence due to injury problems after a recent fall.
Queensland-based Powell has been a regular competitor on the international circuit, having previously ridden in Singapore, Malaysia and Mauritius.
He has ridden almost annually in Mauritius for the last five years and was expected to be heading there again in June before the offer came from Baertschiger to join his Kranji stable.
Powell has been riding for 20 years and has ridden more than 900 winners.
He will begin riding at Kranji this weekend.
