Monday, 19 June 2006: Sky Channel will bring the very best of English racing to Australian audiences when it broadcasts the Royal Ascot Carnival this week.
Races from the five-day carnival will be shown live on Sky Channel beginning tomorrow until Saturday 24 June. Sky Channel will broadcast a selection of races each day.
This year the Royal Ascot Carnival returns to Berkshire and there are three Australian-trained horses running on the first day.
The Lee Freedman trained Falkirk, the Danny O’Brien trained Glamour Puss and Takeover Target trained by Joe Janiak will be running in the Group 2 The King’s Stand Stakes.
Sky Channel Chief Operating Officer Peter Caillard said Sky was thrilled to be able to give Australian audiences the opportunity to watch one of the world’s greatest thoroughbred racing events
.“It’s a great coup for Sky Channel that we have secured the rights to broadcast live from Berkshire the Royal Ascot Carnival. Our weekly programming has been bolstered by this premier international racing event.
“The Royal Ascot Carnival is an exciting event and our viewers will love it especially as it features three Australian trained horses taking on some of the best in the world,” Mr Caillard said.
Provided the field size for each race is no greater than the standard 24 runners, the TAB in Victoria and New South Wales will offer totalizator betting on all races and Fixed Odds betting on selected feature events.
As it is expected that the King’s Stand Stakes tomorrow night will have more than 24 starters, TABSportsbet will offer a fixed odds win and place market on that event.
