Trainer David Payne will be out to capitalise on the fresh record of Al's Magic Miss when she returns at Rosehill on Saturday.
The three-year-old has won three of her 15 starts and all those victories have come at either her first or second runs from a spell.
It's a pattern not lost on Payne who has Al's Magic Miss set to resume in Saturday's Westend Mazda Sprint (1100m).
"She's a filly who seems to go better at her fresh-up runs and then her form tails off," Payne said.
"She puts everything into her first couple of runs."
Al's Magic Miss was fourth in both the Silver Slipper and Sweet Embrace Stakes as a juvenile and stakes placed behind Karuta Queen last spring.
She hasn't raced since failing to beat a rival home in the Darby Munro Stakes at Rosehill in March and Payne said she did a little too well during her subsequent spell.
As a result, he has given her two recent barrier trials and she has won both.
"She needed it. She came back a bit big," Payne said.
Payne's one query is the barrier with Al's Magic Miss drawn wide in gate 12, although she does get in well at the weights and will carry just 51kg after the claim of Payne's apprentice Chad Schofield.
The young rider will also partner juvenile Mintaro in the Pluck@Vinery Handicap (1400m).
The gelding has been unplaced at his only two starts at Canterbury and most recently Newcastle where he was fourth over 1600 metres.
Payne has made an important gear change this weekend to help switch him on.
"He's a nice horse but he still hasn't put it all together," Payne said.
"He's very green which is why I've put a set of blinkers on.
"He trialled in them yesterday (Tuesday) and went well with them on."
Payne's other runners include two-year-old Weepu who drops back to 1100 metres in the Australian Turf Club Handicap after failing to run out 1300m last start.
Winning Glory was paid up for races at both Rosehill and Flemington with Payne to make a decision on where he lines up later this week.
