Wednesday, 11 July 2012: Belmont Stakes winner Union Rags will miss the remainder of 2012 due to a tendon injury.
Russell Jones, associate to owner Phyllis Wyeth, confirmed the setback.
"I have just received notification from trainer Michael Matz that Union Rags has sustained a minor tendon injury which will mean that he will miss the balance of the 2012 season," he said.
"Mrs. Wyeth is currently evaluating his future plans."
Union Rags was the winner of the GI Champagne Stakes and G2 Sapling Stake as a 2YO and ended his season with a second to Hansen in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs in November.
He came back to win the G2 Fountain of Youth and was third in the GI Florida Derby before a seventh in the Kentucky Derby.
An update from vet Dr. Kathy Anderson will be released on Wednesday.
