Fair dinkum. A $150,00 Gr 2 event set down for Sat in Sydney has attracted 6 noms. That is correct, 6. Not 5, not 7, but 6. With all due respect to the owners and good luck to them but one of the noms ran 4th at Nowra 3 starts ago and then beaten by more than a length at 2 subsequents starts at Randwick and Rosehill in 2SC events. And yet some scribes have already, and will have, the audacity to write the event up as something to look forward to. This is just an example of how Australian punters are being treated as fools. Many are. But even the most foolish of punters could not be looking forward to a wager on this event. What an absolute disgrace. This is just an example of the depth to which the quality of racing in some areas of Australia (refer other posts) has plummetted. Maybe this will be the last you will read or hear on the Expressway. For all our sakes. Anything more will be a complete and utter waste of space, time and publishing costs.

I can't see why someone would be complaining about this race! It has 2 brilliant horses engaged in Grand Armee and Falkirk and it will be a great battle to see them go hammer and tong over the 1200m and I'm sure it won't be the last time we see them meet over the Sydney carnival!!

No doubt the clash in timing of the 2 carnivals has a bit to do with it, but it's hardly fair to blame anyone for the early easter. Perhaps if Jesus reads this forum he can explain it for us.

At least the quality of the top chances is there - far better to have a quality small field than a big field of also rans.

The returns of Grand Armee, Falkirk and OER were well publicised prior to the noms. If I had an up and coming Group performer I would probably look elsewhere to resume it as well, rather than take on the likes of those.

Don't WFA races often draw small fields? I remember years ago a 4-horse WFA race that Vo Rogue lost on protest. Was it the Australian Cup? Can't remember...

Cornholio,

I have found it difficult to get on after the event as most bookmakers slice the odds! I fear they will say to me "is that you Khap"(only kidding Khap).

The only exception was I think in NZ when it was possible to have a little interest on Sunline (or moreso have your bet cancelled) in the Dubai 1700 m race. I think the result was Jim and Tonic (by a neck), Fairy King Prawn and Sunline third.

Khap, pls accept the challenge of other learned forumites and nominate your field.

Gee I love timely selections.

Regards

Timesman

Nominate the horses you think should be in the race, would have a fair chance of winning, but aren't, khaptingly?

And I will explain to you why they're not in the race.

Timesman,

as usual you are on the ball. Which is more important, number of starters, or our ability to find and back the winner. To answer your other question, the Great Khrapper will let you know on Sunday.

Take your own advice Khaptingly. Nearly everything you write falls under the above quote.

I think we are still doing better than what masquerades in Europe on many occasions as "top class" Group racing when they stage what is little more than match races between two or three standouts supported by pacemakers and lesser stablemates and laud them as great horses.

I think the likes of Grand Armee, Our Egyptian Raine, Falkirk and Sportsman will turn on a decent race on Saturday, and I bet you wouldn't be complaining if you owned one of them.

But you a right to ask where have the others gone? Lured to Melbourne by the much bigger money next week for the Lightning.

Khap,

Yes the number of noms in low, how many are there again?

I however, prefer to look at the quality of the field rather than its size.

I recall two years ago in the George Main we had Lonhro, Defier, Sunline, Shogun lodge and Accelerator (correct me if I am wrong) in a small field. Darren Beadmen rode a poor race that day on Lonhro and it was an exciting race.

The other problem is possibly the early events in Melbourne.

Gee I love exciting racing.

Timesman

PS Who is going to win most importantly Khap?
