Author: Gambler Timestamp:- 21/4/2003 10:03:12 PM Subject: MAKING CONSISTENT PROFITS Message: Has anyone successfully used a betting strategy to consistently make a reasonable return each week? By strategy, I mean after you've made your selections for a race, how do you go about *investing* your money. I've read somewhere on this forum that there's no point in picking 5 winners if you're not making money and tend to agree.
Some issues to consider:
1) Do you bet on each and every race at a meeting or limit bets to a select few races ? What factors influence this - class of race, size of field, confidence level, etc?
2) When betting on a race do you simply put money on one horse to WIN or EACH WAY or on multiple horses? How successful is multiples betting?
3) Do you only bet on horses where the odds are over what you'd expect them to be?
As a trial, over the last 3 weeks I've been betting on every race on the card in Sydney, usually $20 on one horse to win and another $20 on a different horse to place in the same race. So far I've outlayed about $900 for a return of $1200.
Would be interested to find out what systems others use and the long term(+ 6mths) results. | | Post a reply to this message. |

By showing a very nice (30%) profit during the last 3 weeks, you may have answered your own question. Although you have not expanded on your betting selection process, it seems as though you are making the the right choices. Why not just stick with it and see where it takes you? Do your own analysis of the results...are your Win bets giving you the bulk of your winnings or are the Place returns keeping you afloat ?
At least you are now playing with THEIR money. | | Post a reply to this message. |

The key is too look at a rating system of sorts, your own, or a combination of others and look for the horses which you think are value. Now you probably ask what is value? I beleive this is up to the individual.
I can tell you if you stick to your current method of backing the card in syd, you will not win long term.
The simple key to winning more money, in my opinion, is to reduce the number of bets and outlay more on each. This may mean having only one bet a week or month, but if you want to make a living this is a starting point to do it, I beleive.
My last point is dont get tied up in hype on the hype horses. Back form, not what the media tell us is the next superstar!
Goodluck with it stick to a system and work on it and expand it and money can be made!

Fun factor...yes, and in some cases the alcohol factor, seem to induce stupidity when betting(e.g $100 on Lonhro or Northerly). Discipline is obviously the key factor.

Mathmatically the system works and they have been making 100 - 150 k per year since. Turnover of 1 million a week helps you get freebies at the track too, food etc haha.
