Author: PuGz`Da`KiNg Timestamp:- 1/10/2002 9:47:12 AM Subject: tHe ePsOm!!! Message: wat a cracker of a field this years espom is going to be
defier, excellerator, hey pronto, gordo, universal prince. Any of these top line performers can win the race.
interested to see who everyones money is on, my money will be on excellerator wat a slashing run in the george main, first time over the trip, no speed at all up front cummin from last to finish a close second to defier in a field of australias best weight for age horses over a mile. I think he will strip fitter for the run n if he draws a gate should be hard to beat. Defier cant knock him has proven himself in everything he has attempted this campain cant fault him but the 3.5 kilo weight turn around to excellerator might be the difference. Gordo will be flying home at the end to run third but might have 2 much gap to mak eup in the straight. Universal prince n hey proto will also be flying down the outside but will be looking for more ground. Thats just my opinion on 1 of the races of the spring like 2 see what everybody else thinks.
in order:
(1) Excellerator (2) Defier (3) Gordo (4) Universal Prince (5) Hey Pronto
go excellerator
good luck n good punting | | Post a reply to this message. |

Message: The only thing that stopped defier winning the epsom was a poor ride by munce, should have been much closer on the turn. drs Do you have any knowledge of sydney racing?? If you did you would know that beadman is the number one sydney jock with a strike rate of about 4.5. Thats about the equal of olivers. How many faves does ollie ride???Yet he still only manages a rate of 4 or 5. By the way it seems that this spring hes been dumping horses like a bag of rotten fish. Northerly, The don, Magical Miss.
I admit it wasnt the best ride in the G main, but in the end it was down to munce who should have been suspended in the blink of an eye. That explains why he was suspended over such a small incedent last week. Hes been on a very fine line with the stewards since the G Main.

Author: BB Timestamp:- 8/10/2002 1:33:51 PM Subject: Re: tHe ePsOm!!! Message: Well analysed. Excellerator is the form horse at the moment have made some dollars of it myself.
Defier got what was due. A crappy run after weeks and weeks of luck, too bad Lonhro wasnt there to rub it in. What is Defier's course now. Three weeks to the Cox so will he run again. This poses to be a big question. Run him and he could go in tired and run down, rest him and let him sit out 3 weeks before the CP, no good either.
Northerly is in the same boat, run in CC or not. He also has the problem of trying to run down Lonhro and Northerly a tough ask.
Northerly though has been running against stayers and La Zag (no offence but its 8yo'ish) his form isnt that outstanding.
From what I know Lonhro now goes to Melbourne to run Saturday, meeting Sunline in a head to head race which will be won hands down by little O.
Grandera is an unknown quantity, even if it is a champ will have to overcome the usual overseas horse isues. (Does anyone know how it likes to run).
NOTE: All people who are about to knock my comments about Sunline dont bother, she is GONE and after Satuday will be pulled out of the CP as Lonhro will embarass her, please refer to George Main, Lonhro got smashed and still nearly beat her. | | Post a reply to this message. |
Author: JoeDirt Timestamp:- 5/10/2002 1:14:00 AM Subject: Re: tHe ePsOm!!! Message: Defier is obviously hard to beat, but Universal Prince for mine. The only query, as some of you have mentioned, is that there doesn't seem to be much pace in the race. I think Universal Prince is still yet to find his career best form, and I reckon that may come around Japan Cup day this year. Good Punting! | | Post a reply to this message. |

Personally do not like Gai's horses as I would never, never, ever give her one to train. Especially a filly.
Yes, Gai & John have stacked the field but, have not seen one comment re Universal Prince.
Have never had an opinion about Excellerator. Runs a lot of seconds from memory. And, Gai will never train a champion as the "Tulloch"s are very few and far between.
Think Uni Prince can give Defier a run for his money. | | Post a reply to this message. |
Author: Speedy Gonzalez Timestamp:- 3/10/2002 1:10:40 PM Subject: Re: The EPSOM Message: Some of U people are dead set kidding! How is barrier 9 bad? that's a great barrier from the 1600m at Randwick. 5-10 are the best barriers in big 1600m races there.
Add to that Defier's only got 56.5kgs, would U tip against Sunline with 56.5kgs???
On current form Defier should win easily, only bad luck and a big drop in form can stop him.
I backed Zabarra last week at $22, but he's got little chance on sat - massive step up in class.

Author: THE ALMIGHTY ONE Timestamp:- 3/10/2002 9:59:04 AM Subject: Re: The EPSOM Message: The epsom looks a pretty hard race this year as it does pretty much every year, this is my read on the race I think the speed in the race will come from Pheonix Park, Swiss Echo and Kingsgate they should put on a pretty good tempo it will be nothing flash but it will be fast enough for the swoopers to come. My Horse to win this year is Zabarra had absolutely no luck last week but still got upto win, I just wonder what his odds would be if he got a clear run at them up the straight and won by 3, i think his quote would be halved. I am worried about where defier is going to end up with barrier 9 but surely should fill a place but I have my reasons for risking him in this, then Gordo and Excellerator for the Multiples should be a great race, how weak is the spring champion stakes it should be scratched and not run this year that is rediculous.

So Excellerator will beat Gordo by 8.25 lengths and Shogun Lodge 15.
Proves how stupid some of those ratings systems are. | | Post a reply to this message. |

Author: drs Timestamp:- 2/10/2002 10:18:05 PM Subject: Re: tHe ePsOm!!! Message: Two things struck me about the Epsom. The fact that 10 of the 16 runners were supplied by Gai Waterhouse and Crown Lodge, and that there appeared to be only two natural on-pace runners, in Phoenix Park and Kingsgate. I would expect that the pace would be reasonably slow, but this may suit some of the big finishers, as the field won't string out very much. Possibly you would want to be finishing down the middle of the track to avoid a traffic jam down toward the inside. | | Post a reply to this message. |
Author: TopGun Timestamp:- 2/10/2002 10:01:21 PM Subject: Re: The EPSOM Message: Da G show,
I agree with you about Excellerator, was without doubt the fittest horse at Randwick on Saturday. Whereas there is still a bit of improvement left in Defier and Hey Pronto from last week.

Pugz one point i'd like to make re your comment that excellerator 'will strip fitter'. I was at both newcastle and randwick for his last two runs and i doubt even gai could get him looking any better! all we supporters of the horse can hope for is that she keeps him up to the mark, gets a decent draw and suffers no interference!

My Selection is Pheonix Park 1ST Excellerator 2nd Defier 3rd cuddled up in the run Pheonix B.York will sprint topping to rise and just fall in (photo) all this for a horse that has never won beyond 1200m ... (he reminds me of Chanticlair who i backed to win the race in mid 80s) | | Post a reply to this message. |
