CP definitely the factor of most relevance.

You might like to compare your setting/s results with these four, which are about the mark, for the way I use them - trifectas.

CP2, CF2, TIM1

CP2, CF1, $2

CP1, JA3, TA2, JT3, $2

CP1, JA4, TA3, BP3, $3

I have tried to develop settings, which come up with all placegetters in a reasonable number of selections.

The top two settings tend to find the winner early in the order, but often go missing when it comes to placegetters, particularly 3rd.

Hence the more obscure settings in the blend.

In recent times, I have run all four settings, noting down the top seven (under each other) then set about merging selections from top setting down, to end up with a single selection order.

Might seem a lot of work, but with broadband, can probably complete a four meeting day in about an hour.

Whether neurals work or not, depends a lot on the individual and how he/she uses the final information. Extra form study is often a must.

I've mentioned time and again on this forum, that my betting skills leave a lot to be desired. INcurable problem.
I know that over time, I am going to lose money. The 20%+ tax on trifectas makes sure of that. In reality, trifectas are very difficult....generally too difficult to bother with......that's why they pay so much.

Therefore, my use of the neurals is more for selection simplicity, fun and pursuit of a lifelong hobby, combined with limited losses....only a slow balance leakage.

Lately I have been going days without a bet, but go through the neural process every day.

A few people have asked for final selections, which I email out most days. I doubt any use is made of them, other than to check out how good or bad I went.

Hi John,

I’m sure Alcatraz has some advise to pass on regarding Neurals as he’s been using them for years, but I thought I’d pass on some advise as well.

I’ve been collecting them for about 2 ˝ years now and have used them with great success. You’re right in mentioning that CP is the most predictive field available, however I have found that there are other fields which also significantly predict winners – they are (in order or significance):

CP, Doll, JA, TA, D, CF

In fact just about all of the fields are significant in predicting the outcome, however the ones above are the most predictive.

That order is if you have the one set of weightings to apply to all races. I have several sets of ratings that I apply to a race depending on whether or not it is a maiden, and also the track condition.

You mentioned that you go through the QLD TAB website – you could do a lot worse then looking at the “Ratings” column of the odds screen (apparently this is the AAP rating – anyone know if they mean R&S rating and how is this derived?).

Anyway, hope this helps.

Hi Alcatraz, I'm posting to you because you seem to be the most active on the board.
I am enjoying the Neural Algorithms, and have had some luck lately, jagging some First 4s on the TAB (TABonline.com.au). Basically, I play the First 4 like double quinellas (First and second places boxed, and third and fourth places boxed). Having mapped the Neurals over the past few years I weight the CP factor highly. Can't track any real correlation with other factors though, and I dont have a strong punting background, so its CP for me. I punt on SE QLD races only. Any comments?
thanks for posting
John
