5 months???

What a ridiculous penalty - way over the top! There are blokes who purposely drug them that don't get 5 months when caught - don't even get suspended!

Should have been a week max. Well done to the kid for not saying anything on the day either - nobody likes a dauber.

Stewards - no idea.

it's dobber and what are u going on about,,,?

This is a serious breach of racing rules particularly when it involved such a tight finish...larakin or not it was plain stupid what he did. Rules are rules.

I was suprised he didn't cop a large fine and three months, that's what I expected him to get.

Perhaps if he had of taken the whip out of the jocks hand of the horse you backed you might see some sense.

then again that's the problem with common sense..

It's not very common.

Ben Looker is at work. He is driving a machine. Another worker drives over and (without permission) recklessly plays with Looker's gears.

That's how they look at it, Santo. It's an OH&S issue. That's the world we live in now.

I found the whole thing a p!sser myself. And I hope Scriven gets a much-reduced suspension on Appeal.

Notwithstanding the principle (which requires some penalty), it does seem excessive given the circumstances - a lowly Ipswich midweeker which attracted small exotic betting pools. Normally I'd have little sympathy for any jockey who breaks the rules but this was obviously a brain-snap - almost (NB) an involuntary response to Looker knocking the whip out of his hands.

I presume the steward/s whose job it is to watch races, 'protect punters' (huh?) and ensure racing is conducted properly at Ipswich won't have their livelihoods removed for even one day?

I agree that the penalty was a bit harsh but there was a very serious safety issue with this incident, Scriven's behaviour was inexcusable and he really should have known better, especially when it involved an apprentice.

Correct, santo. And I agree with you on the kid who shut his mouth.

Outside of lousiness, I cannot cope with dobbers.
