Author: MD Timestamp:- 2/8/2011 2:23:14 PM Subject: Bank on the Tank Message: Are the AFL really so naive as to think that teams haven't 'tanked' to obtain priority draft picks? Dean Bailey virtually admitted so yesterday and yet Adrian Anderson still thinks it is only "public perception"!
Melbourne tanked and so did Carlton and both did the right thing in doing so. The Blues would now be without Kreuzer and possibly Judd if they had not tanked, all for the sake of winning 1 or 2 more games and finishing 15th instead of 16th - big deal!! | | Post a reply to this message. |

It's another case of those clowns at AFL HQ with their head in the sand. It might be a slap in the face Kapcher, but it happens. And why shouldn't it. It is no worse than what the Demons displayed on Saturday. That is what I call a slap in the face to fans. This is another issue to be written about.
I only have heard of 2 people denying that tanking happens, and they both work for the AFL. What else would they say. For one thing they have to justify their position. Just like their embarrassing, feeble efforts to put a stop to players betting.
I'd love players from my team to be betting on my team. We know the Demons players did not bet on Saturday. Well not on Melb anyway.
There is that much wrong with the AFL, it is a farce. Funny radio show in Melbourne tonight. One caller called an AFL "suit" a banker, they could not cut his call quick enough before he said it. Well said caller.

I remember tons of Melbourne supporters cheering when Richmond's Jordan(?) goaled after the siren to deny them the 4 premiership points. It still wouldve felt like a win.
The whingeing about tanking is overrated. Every team does similar.... all of resting sore players or waiting a week or two longer to ensure an injured player's complete recovery, rebuilding, experimenting with new game plans and player positions, turfing older players, dropping good players with current poor form or for breaking team rules, maybe even some coach sackings - they're all done for long-term gain. People are naive to think tanking's the first instance of short-term sacrifice.
If your team is going to have a few horror years where's the logic in one more win and possibly one less premiership later?!! | | Post a reply to this message. |

Shouldn’t the rewards go to the teams that put in the hard work?? The AFL has been rewarding the teams that fail and finish with only a few wins for years. Things need to change or tanking will continue. | | Post a reply to this message. |

I can't agree.
Tanking is a slap in the face to all those supporters who pay good money for a membership and then have to sit at the football and watch their side lose?
That's garbage.
