Friday, 13 July 2012:

The Perth Scorchers will boast one of the best opening pairings in the upcoming Twenty20 Big Bash League season after re-signing Shaun Marsh and South African Herschelle Gibbs.

Marsh, a star of the Indian Premier League, boasts an average of 41.33 at a strike rate of 134.71 in 82 Twenty20 appearances.

The 29-year-old only made one appearance for the Scorchers last season due to international commitments, but made sure it was a memorable one, cracking an unbeaten 99 off just 52 balls against the Melbourne Renegades.

Gibbs was a star of the last BBL season, smashing 302 runs at an average of 43.14 to help power the Scorchers into the final.

The Scorchers also announced the re-signing of tweaker Michael Beer, who will team with Brad Hogg to form a miserly spin duo.

Other players to have re-signed with the Scorchers are Simon Katich, Mike Hussey, Mitch Marsh and Marcus North, while speedster Pat Cummins has made the move west from the Sydney Sixers.
