Saturday, 11 August 2012:

New signing Tim Cahill set up the opening goal as the New York Red Bulls moved into first place in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference with a 2-0 home win over Houston Dynamo on Friday.

The win kept the Red Bulls (12-7-5) undefeated at home in 11 games and vaulted them atop the East with 41 points, one ahead of Houston and Sporting Kansas City.

New York went ahead in the 61st minute as former Everton star Cahill headed the ball across goal to defender Markus Holgersson, who prodded the ball into the net.

Jan Gunnar Solli tapped in a cushion goal in the second minute of stoppage time off a pass from Thierry Henry for the final margin.

The loss snapped a five-game win streak and eight-game unbeaten string for Houston.

Socceroos star Cahill has opted out of Australia's upcoming friendlies to focus on getting off to a good career start with New York.
