Tuesday, 15 May 2012: Sea Siren continued her exciting rise through the grades by successfully taking on the older horses for an impressive win in the Group 1 BTC Cup at Doomben last Saturday.

Given a freshen up since her second in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) behind Streama , Sea Siren ventured to Queensland for the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben last Saturday.

Sea Siren was considered one of the main contenders in the event despite rising from three-year-old fillies company to open weight for age.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock sat up near the speed during the run and stuck to her task in the straight for a 1.3 length success over seasoned rivals Scenic Blast  and Beaded .

Last Saturday's Group 1 BTC Cup continued Sea Siren's stellar rise to the highest level with the winning performance yielding the John O'Shea filly a new peak Timeform rating of 117.

This effort was six pounds higher than Sea Siren's second in the Surround Stakes behind subsequent Oaks winner Streama the start prior and eight pounds superior to her Light Fingers success two runs ago.

A winning figure of 117 is lower than the events previous five year winning average of 125 however that average is bolstered by the 2011 BTC Cup renewal taken out by none other than Black Caviar .

The BTC Cup was run initially run under weight for age conditions in 1991. Six three-year-olds have won the event in that time starting with St. Jude during that year following by the likes of Accomplice [1997], General Nediym [1998], Falvelon [2000] and Duporth [2009].

Sea Siren is the first filly to claim the event and did it by shaving .29 of a second off the race record previously set by Lord Essex in 2002.

The Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m) now beckons for Sea Siren who is currently favourite for the event in many early markets.

Sea Siren can follow in the footsteps of Private Steer who claimed the feature event during her three-year-old season for John O'Shea in 2003.

A figure of 117 could prove to be just shy of the rating needed to win a Stradbroke Handicap with the events current five year winning average 122.

Considering Sea Siren's continued rise through the classes during her short six start career, witnessing further improvement over the remainder of the Queensland Winter Carnival would come as no surprise.

From a filly who ran to a figure of just 84 when winning on debut at Canterbury last December, Sea Siren has certainly come a long way in a short time.
