Black Caviar Races For The Queen

Wednesday, 6 June 2012: The scene for the final day of Royal Ascot on Saturday June 23rd could not have been scripted better when Australia's champion unbeaten race mare Black Caviar takes to the testing straight 6 furlong course to tackle the best sprinters Europe has to offer.

In The Queen's Diamond Jubilee year, it is a unique opportunity to have one of the best ever race mares contesting a race specifically renamed to mark the occasion.

Timeform rated 136, Black Caviar  is the equal top rated filly or mare in Timeform history alongside Habibti (a superlative British sprinter of the 1980s) and Allez France (the top French filly of the 1970s).

Unbeaten after 21 race starts including 11 at Group 1 level, the racing world has eagerly awaited the
moment for her to race aboard.

It is impossible to fault Black Caviar. Her performances speak for her, she has broken the hearts of many opponents as well as smashing a long string of historical records in reaching 21 races undefeated over distances from five to seven furlongs. Not even the prospect of the straight course will worry her; she is seven from seven down the Flemington straight.

Although a clash with the world's top rated galloper Frankel (143) will not take place, that galloper preferring instead the mile of the Queen Anne, the appearance of Black Caviar in the Diamond Jubilee will cap off one of the best Royal Ascot meetings in recent memory which can boast the appearance of the world's two top Timeform rated gallopers, opening and closing the meeting.

While many European trainers have indicated they will bypass a clash with Black Caviar, choosing instead the King's Stand Stakes, there still remain some handy types ready to take on one of the best gallopers ever to race in Australia.

Under the weight for age conditions and in receipt of three pounds under the scale from her male opponents, Black Caviar has a big advantage on weight adjusted ratings.

If Black Caviar runs to her top, and trainer Peter Moody has said she will leave for Europe the fittest he has ever had her, then any male opponent must run to 139 or better to beat her. That is simply not going to happen.

Timeform ratings (weight adjusted) for the leading contenders:
