Winning Trainer: John O’Shea

On the win: “I think a lot of credit has to go to the team out at the farm. They’ve prepared him immaculately well and Sam (Clipperton) has come of age. He rode a cool race, was there to educate his horse first and make sure he had a lovely day out and he did that.

“It is a wonderful team effort and the team out at Osborne should be very proud.

Final stages: “Sam was soft late. He had a good day out and didn’t have a hard run. He should go forward from that.

On the horse: “We know he is a class horse, we’ve said that all along. We had an aberration of a Slipper. That was probably because of the firm ground and being at the latter part of his prep.

“We’ve learnt a lot more about him and hopefully going forward he can still continue to race well.”

On maturing: “He has grown into his big frame. When you see him walk into the enclosure, he has made dramatic transformation from an autumn two-year-old to a spring three-year-old. You can imagine him when he gets to weight-for-age, he is a 600 kilogram horse who is going to be carrying 53 against older horses. I think he has got a big sprinting future ahead of him.”

Future plans: “You will see him next in the Golden Rose in a fortnight. We are really proud of both horses, Holler ran really great. We might have two or three runners.”

Winning Jockey: Sam Clipperton

On the horse: “He is a lovely horse in the making, he is a serious racehorse actually. With a big weight, he went past a small but competitive field with a lot of ease. That was only his first up effort and he has got a lot of improvement left in him.

Final 400m: “I had to switch across the two main chances heels in Japonisme and Press Statement. They had the momentum on my. For my horse to pick himself up with 59, it was an almighty effort and it goes to show just how much of a good horse he is.”

Beaten Jockeys:

Tye Angland (Press Statement): “Super run. Did it all at the right ends. Was just a little bit flat-footed around the bend, the further we got in the race the better he got so once he steps up in distance he’s going to have a great turn of foot.”

Hugh Bowman (Japonisme): “I can’t offer any excuses. We had our chance. He was there to capitalise on the run if he was good enough and just didn’t race to his best today.”

Christian Reith (Holler): “Awesome run. Run really good, just ran out of gas.”

Tommy Berry (Redzel): “He’s just not up to that grade. We had a nice run in front and today was the day to let us know if he’s up to them but he’s not.”
