RACING STRUCTURE

Australia consists of 8 States or Territories and each conducts their own Racing Programs under the control and supervision of Statutory bodies set up as Principal Racing Clubs in each jurisdiction.

However each jurisdiction is bound by the Australian Racing Board to ensure racing across Australia is conducted in accordance with general practices and Rules of Racing.

Across these States there are 454 Race Clubs using 379 separate racetracks.

In the 2001-2002 Australian Racing Season (8/01/2001 - 7/31/2002) something like 21,390 races were held across Australia.

The Race Clubs are non-proprietary, run by Honorary Committees and they put all their profits back into racing.

Not all tracks would be included in the Simulcast programme for North America but the majority of tracks on the Eastern Coast in the States of New South Wales (NSW), Victoria (VIC), South Australia (SA) and Queensland (QLD) would be covered at some stage.

Generally there are two meetings simulcast into North America each day - they are broken up into A & B Tracks and are usually the best quality meetings being conducted on the day in Australia.

Bettors in Australia can also place bets on through parimutuel wagering bodies in each State on the simulcast tracks and receive SKY Channel Television Coverage for cable TV.

In some States several racetracks are not used on a regular basis for TAB/simulcast meetings, however in any racing season a track like say Queanbeyan in South West New South Wales would conduct around 10 TAB and 4 simulcast meetings a year. They would also conduct a number of Non-TAB meetings.
