Today’s Horse Racing Tips – January 3

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on January 3.

Three TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Thursday at Kembla Grange, Geelong & Townsville.

Kembla Grange Race 6 @4.20pm

HEMSTED was never on the track last start over 1100m at Hawkesbury but kept finding something to miss a mighty win by the barest of margins. Looks ready to run a strong 1300m, with the wide barrier his biggest concern. EMERALD EARTH stepped up sharply to 1500m at Hawkesbury last time out when second up from a spell but did a good job to box on for 3rd in a very busy finish. Back 200m in trip today but gets all the favours from the inside stall and will be very strong through the line. KENTFORD led into the straight over 1400m at the Kensington track last start but was overwhelmed in the run home and finished 4th. Well-placed today and is sure to be thereabouts. Big watch on REXX resuming as a gelding. SELECTIONS: #3 Hemsted looks ready to win - back him accordingly.

Townsville: Race 5 @ 5.15pm (AEDT)

ZOOKS raced on the speed and fought hard to win at this course and distance last start. That was his second success from his past three outings so is in good form. Hard to stop. HYPER DRIVE is racing consistently with three placings and a fourth from her last four runs. That form must be respected. Contender. SIEGE OF ENNIS resumes after winning a maiden at Rockhampton last campaign. Could be an improver this time around. SELECTIONS: #7 Zooks to go back to back from #9 and #4.

R6 KEMBLA GRANGE 3 January 2019
Blg Business Advisers Mdn , 1300m
Race Synopsis: After four placings in his first six starts, Godolphin-raced three-year-old Hemsted broke through for a narrow but good win here. He began well from his wide barrier (10) and soon settled in third place, before moving up at the home turn. He got to the front at the 200m and then fought back to score in a photo. The Peter and Paul Snowdentrained filly My Demetra had a nice trip in fourth place until into the home straight. She moved up at the 200m and kept making good ground over the latter stages, failing by a narrow margin for second in a promising debut. Team Hawkes-trained filly Georgina Gold went to the front and led the field until the 200m before holding on to take third.
