Flemington: Race 8 @ 4.10pm

COOL CHAP was terrific chasing home Ozi Choice over 1400m last time. Skipped the run in between and now meets him up to the mile which has to suit. He ran well in the Doncaster earlier in the prep and that speaks volumes for his chances against these, as does his effort in the Blamey at this course and distance. MORTON'S FORK ran well in the same race and then closed nicely last time. He wants the mile now. OZI CHOICE has to stretch to the trip but ties all that form in. Dark Eyes can measure up from Sydney and Magic Consul must be respected off his dominant display last time. SELECTIONS: Backing #8 Cool Chap and #7 Morton's Fork.

Randwick: Race 1 @ 11.35pm

MARMARIS produced a head turner first up at this course and distance a fortnight ago. Settled back and charged home for a second behind the talented Dio D'Oro who has since come out and franked the form. THINKIN' BIG was a debut winner at Canterbury over 1100m. Was prominent throughout on that occasion. Expect the same here from an inside draw. MIZZY ran second on debut at Canterbury on debut over 1100m at big odds. Will have taken valuable race experience from the outing. Can go one better. SELECTIONS: Backing #1 Marmaris for the win.

Gawler: Race 3 @ 1:46pm (AEST)

NIGHT FALLS overcame a slow start to score well at Warrnambool last start. That was his second win from his past four starts and he is a lightly raced colt with upside. Can take another step forward. SUPER SWOOP hasn't been too far off the placegetters in two starts since a spell. Well drawn and can peak third up. FULTON STREET has been racing well having finished runner up last time after a Mildura win three back. Respect. OH MO is race fit now and in the mix. SELECTIONS: #1 Night Falls to win again.

Doomben: Race 6 @ 2:42pm

MISS EXFACTOR has won both races this campaign, the most recent when getting the better of Envy Of All over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast. Likely to be positive from the wide draw today and with even luck can secure the win again despite meeting BASARA finished runner up to Envy Of All last start at Ipswich and is next best. SELECTIONS: #2 Miss Exfactor has each way appeal.

Belmont: Race 5 @ 5:10pm (AEST)

RED ARMY really caught the eye late last weekend and now appears set to relish the step up in trip on the quick back. Only lightly raced he is yet to miss the money in seven attempts and always have given the impression he would be at his top behind a mile. Drawn to settle closer to the speed and should prove very hard to hold out. BEAUCOUNT is absolutely flying now allowed to let rip out in front. Will no doubt press forward from the wide draw and give them all something to run down. NEW AGE has won 5/8 and is unbeaten over this trip (2/2). Pike sticks and she obviously commands respect. SELECTIONS: Very keen on #5 Red Army or the win.

R8 FLEMINGTON 7 July 2018
Vrc-Crv Winter C'ship Final , 1600m
Race Synopsis: Eight-year-old gelding Magic Consol, trained at Horsham by Paul Preusker, broke though for his first stakes win in scoring here, his 12th win from 57 starts. After beginning from the outside barrier (14), Craig Williams settled him in eighth place, behind a solid tempo before tracking up rounding the home turn. He sprinted quickly nearing the 200m and went on to win comfortably. Moss 'N' Dale raced back in sixth place, improved (wide, without cover) from the 600m, challenged at the 200m and fought on well for a good second after conceding the winner 4kg. Galaxy Ruler settled well back in second last place, went deep on turning for home and kept running on to take third nearing the post.
