Weir Set For Another Big Weekend

Trainer Darren Weir is front and centre with punters to add more feature races to his trophy cabinet this weekend.

Weir prepares the favourites in both the Doomben Cup and Darley Goodwood in Brisbane and South Australia respectively on Saturday afternoon.

In the Doomben Cup, TAB has installed the Weir-trained Articus as co-$4.40 favourite along with Doncaster Mile winner Its Somewhat while he has another runner, Star Exhibit, safe in the market at $11.

“Articus had been as much as $15 in All-In betting with us,” TAB’s Andrew Georgiou said.

“Even at that price he was still the most popular runner in terms of money held. Our bookies then went into Final Field mode and punters haven’t hesitated in coming for the Weir runner once again.”

Articus begins from barrier eight and will be partnered by Brenton Avdulla.

Over at Morphettville and punters are keen on the return of Black Heart Bart in the Goodwood.

TAB has gone up $3.60 Final Field and the first horse they backed was multiple Group One winner, who is a clear top pick ahead of Secret Agenda and Vega Magic on the second line of betting at $6.50 respectively.

Black Heart Bart has drawn ideally in gate two with Brad Rawiller aboard.

“It was no surprise to see that Black Heart Bart was one of the more popular runners with us in the All-In market on this race,” Georgiou said.

“He is coming into this off a spell, however, his two previous runs before a break resulted in Group One wins in the CF Orr and Futurity Stakes.

“Vega Magic attracted a fair bit of early money while Secret Agenda, an impressive winner of the Robert Sangster last start, also had its fair share of admirers.”

Weir will saddle up two runners in the South Australian feature with Rageese, a $21 chance, being the other.
