Another Red Letter Day For Snitzel

Champion sire Snitzel sired three new stakes winners on Saturday as well as a new Group One winner when Redzel landed the $700,000 Doomben Ten Thousand in Brisbane.

Redzel became Snitzel’s 11th G1 winner while his three new stakes winners took his tally of black type winners to 62.

The red letter day for the son of Redoute’s Choice increased his lead at the head of the Australian sires table by earnings and winners.

Snitzel’s progeny earnings this season stand at $13.81 million, surpassing the previous premiership record of $12.9 million set last season by Street Cry.

Snitzel’s worldwide statistics now read 62 Group & Listed stakeswinners (27 this season); 11 G1 winners (5 this season); and 27 2YO stakeswinners (nine this season).

The Arrowfield Stud stallion has sired 28 juvenile winners in Australia so far this season. He heads the 2YO and 3YO tables by both earnings and winners.

Snitzel’s new stakes winners were Debonairly (Listed Woodlands Stakes); Tangled (G2 Champagne Classic); and Vienna Miss (Listed Adelaide Guineas).

Snitzel’s fee for 2017 has risen to $176,000 (inc GST), up from $110,000 (inc GST) in 2016.

REDZEL Horseform: A fine win by the 4YO gelding Redzel (Snitzel x Millrich by Rubiton) taking his record to seven wins, four seconds and a third from 17 starts for prize money of $1,194,450.

Redzel was bought by Marquee Stud for $45,000 at the 2013 Australian Weanling Sale before being subsequently sold for $120,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale to Triple Crown Syndications.

He's the second G1 winner by Snitzel to carry the Triple Crown all-red colours after Hot Snitzel, winner of the 2015 BTC Cup and four other Group races.

Redzel is out of the G3 Sweet Embrace Stakes winner and G1 Golden Slipper Stakes third Millrich (Rubition), a mare who has produced nine foals to race for seven winners.

They include the G3 winner and sire Danerich (Danehill). Millrich died in 2012 and Redzel was her final foal.

Redzel’s second dam is the three-time winner Mill Rani (Millionaire), dam of eight winners and grand dam of the G1-placed sire El Roca (Fastnet Rock).

DEBONAIRLY Horseform: This Gai Waterhouse/Adian Bott-trained 2YO filly is out of SIngpsiel mare Crystal Choir and was a $320,000 purchase by Marette Farrell and Gai Waterhouse Racing at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Milburn Creek.

Debonairly defeated Lipizzan (Sebring) with I Am Excited, a first starter by Snitzel, an impressive third in the Listed Woodlands Stakes at Scone for her third win from five starts.

Debonairly races for Speedway Stables and will be given a short break before she is for the spring races.

TANGLED Horseform: Added a third win in the G2 Champagne Classic at Doomben for trainer Chris Waller.

Tangled, a winner at Wyong at his previous start, is from the high class Shinko King mare Bramble Rose, winner of the G1 NZ Oaks.

Waller said he will go on to the G2 QTC Sires Produce Stakes and G1 JJ Atkins at Eagle Farm.

Waller previously won the Champagne Classic with Pressday and Brazen Beau, both now retired to stud. Pressday went on to win the J J Atkins while Brazen Beau was runner-up.

A $310,000 Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase by Waller Tangled has won two of his four starts with prize money of $154,200.

His Oaks-winning dam Bramble Rose, a half-sister to G3 winner Lady Chaparral (High Chaparral), has produced five other winners including the Listed winners Sebrose (Sebring) and Maules Creek (Redoute’s Choice).

His third dam Fauxzann (Zamazaan) is a threequarter sister to stakes winner Zama Lad (Zamazaan) and is the dam of G1 winner The Filbert (Souvran) and G3 winner Red Hawk (War Hawk).

Bramble Rose was purchased by James Harron Bloodstock for $200,000 at the 2014 Australian Broodmare Sale. She has a yearling filly by Pierro and was covered by Dissident last spring.

VIENNA MISS Horseform: Lightly raced 3YO filly recorded an unexpected win for trainer John Hyam in the Listed Adelaide Guineas at Morphettvile.

Vienna Miss (Snitzel x Miss Doopsy by Bite The Bullet) was bred by Tori Park Stud and was sold for $100,000 by Eliza Park International to her trainer John Hyam at the 2015 Melbourne Premier Sale.

Her dam Miss Doopsy is a half-sister to the dam of Perth stakeswinners Let It Slip (Not A Single Doubt) and Gangbuster.

R7 DOOMBEN 13 May 2017
James Boag's Premium Doomben , 1200m
Race Synopsis: Redzel took his record to seven wins from 17 starts in recording his first Group One success here. He showed his usual quick early pace to take the lead, was then pressured in front (with the first 600min a fast 34.94). He then kept fighting back gamely when challenged again in the straight to score a very smart win, only his second at 1200m (his other wins being over shorter distances). Counterattack raced in ninth place, between runners, went between runners at the home turn, going to fourth at the 200m. He then kept running on well to take a late-closing second. Derryn settled back in the field, as expected, racing in second last place. He got a split at the 200m, got to second at the 100m and then fought well for a very good third. The favourite Russian Revolution had a good run behind the leader (stablemate, Redzel), got into clear running on the inner at the 300m and momentarily looked dangerous before battling on for (2.8 lengths) fourth after seeming to have every chance. In Her Time was a handy fourth (but wide) and did well in holding on for (3 lengths) fifth in a smart effort in this class.
