Brazen Beau Colt Sets Classic Record

Former Group One winner Brazen Beau has made a spectacular start to his breeding career with a first crop colt selling for a record price at the first session of the Sydney Classic Sale on Saturday night.

The top lot by Brazen Beau from Written Dash (Written Tycoon) was offered by Tyreel Stud and went to the bid of Orbis Bloodstock for $480,000 on a night when 15 lots sold for $200,000 or more.

The colt is the first foal out of the G3 winner Written Dash. His third dam Balsamico (Redoute’s Choice) is a half-sister to Admirelle (General Nediym) the dam of G1 winner and sire Sizzling (Snitzel).

Hong Kong-based Justin Bahen of Orbis Bloodstock described the Brazen Beau colt as “stunning’’.

“I think Brazen Beau is a quality stallion on the way up and this colt, he had such a strong hind quarter and a good brain which I think is most important,” Bahen said,

“Of course, it was a lot of money and a risk being by a first season sire, but I look at the individual and he has a good female line.”

Orbis Bloodstock is building up a large racing team in Australia and overseas including Europe.

Top Brisbane trainer Tony Gollan will train the I Am Invincible colt sold for the second highest price of $475,000 after buying the youngster in partnership with Boomer Bloodstock.

The colt is out of the winning Exceed And Excel mare Sonnenblume, a three-quarter sister to G1 winner Shinzig and Listed winner Strada.

The Gold Riband session averaged $163,571 with a clearance rate of 95%.

The overall sale average after the first session was $132,970 with a clearance rate of 89% and gross of $13,430,000.

Carramar Park enjoyed the highest average (3 or more lots sold) of $225,833, while leading vendor by aggregate was Yarraman Park with $1,017,500 from five lots sold.

Victoria’s Kavanagh Racing was leading buyer, purchasing seven lots at an aggregate of $775,000 and average of $110,000.

I Am Invincible was leading sire with five of his progeny selling for a total of $1,635,000 at an average of $327,000.
