Coolmore Prepares 32 For Easter Sale
Coolmore Stud will offer a draft of 32 lots at the Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney in April.
Coolmore bloodstock and sales manager Shane McGrath said the focus this year is on quality as opposed to quantity.
Coolmore sold 24 lots at last year’s Easter sale including the unbeaten Lindsay Park-trained filly Catchy (Fastnet Rock).
“The market at Easter has been particularly selective in recent years, in keeping with the trends from the other select yearling sales around the
World,” McGrath said.
“As a consequence we have tailored our draft accordingly, with a slightly smaller offering and a focus on quality in terms of both pedigree and physique.
“As you would expect, we have some very good yearlings by Fastnet Rock.
“Easter catalogues have featured 19 of Fastnet Rock’s Group One performers including Mosheen, Foxwedge, Lumosty and Lake Geneva.
“We are extremely excited by the start made at stud by Pierro and amongst his progeny in our draft is a full brother to Tulip, who looks a star in the making.”
Tulip was beaten only a nose in the G3 Blue Diamond Preview at Caulfield at her second start after recording an impressive debut win at Moonee Valley.
At the recent Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale Pierro had 27 yearlings sell for $4,785,000 at an average of $177,222 with a top price of $450,000.
“The Magic Millions was a great endorsement of the positive view that the market has of Pierro and his progeny,” McGrath said.
“That said, Easter is still the barometer as to health of the upper end of our bloodstock market and it’s in the best interests of all breeders to see a vibrant, liquid sale.
“At this stage all the key indicators suggest there will be a healthy, robust market at Easter.”
