Good Day Out For Aquis Park

Queensland stud farm Aquis Park had a day to remember at the Gold Coast meeting on Saturday.

Aquis-based sire Dream Ahead sired a new stakes winner and the Aquis ownership team won the 2YO feature race, the G3 Ken Russell Memorial, with the Sebring colt Sesar.

The first black type victory for Aquis came courtesy of the Dream Ahead 4YO Dreams Aplenty.

The John Zielke-trained Dreams Aplenty Horseform won the Listed Gold Coast Cup, taking his earnings to over $400,000.

Aquis race Sesar Horseform in partnership with Jamie Walter’s Proven Thoroughbreds. Walter purchased Sesar as a yearling for $160,000 at the Sydney Easter sale in 2017 from the draft of Southern Cross Breeders.

Having just his third race start Sesar beat Boomsara and another Aquis runner Lean Mean Machine, who was a luckless third from a wide barrier.

Aquis runners have now won this season’s two 2YO feature races at the Gold Coast following Sunlight’s victory in the Listed Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YO Classic in January.

The daughter of Zoustar, raced by Aquis and partners and trained by Tony McEvoy, had a memorable campaign when winning five successive starts including the G2 Silver Slipper Stakes and G3 Magic Night Stakes before finishing third in the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes.

Sesar (Sebring x Sarthemare by Street Cry) is a Sebring half-brother to another Aquis-owned Gold Coast winner Doubt Defying.

Sesar is the 41st individual stakes winner by Sebring, the Golden Slipper winning son of More Than Ready.

More Than Ready also figured in the results at the Gold Coast when he added his 185th stakes winner to his honour roll when the fast Sydney mare Anatola (More Than Ready x Wager by Flying Spur) won the Listed Silk Stocking Stakes.

Anatola Horseform races for her owner-breeder George Altomonte and has now won six of her 18 starts.

The Toby Edmond’s trained Whypeeo Horseform came close to making it an Aquis double at the Gold Coast on Saturday when a game second to classy Sydney filly Champagne Cuddles Horseform in the G3 Gold Coast Guineas.

Arrowfield’s Not A Single Doubt sired his 56th stakes winner when the G1-placed filly Champagne Cuddles returned from a spell with a strong win in the Guineas for her third win in eight starts.

Champagne Cuddles (Not A Single Doubt x Sky Cuddles by Snippets) is the first black-type winner for her G1-winning dam.

Sky Cuddle won the LKS Mackinnon Stakes at Flemington in 2001 and has produced three winners from seven foals to race.

They include Shantha’s Girl, the dam of the stakes placed Violate (Sebring).

Sky Cuddle is among eight winners from the Al Hareb mare Suggestive including G2 winner Highly Recommended (Fastnet Rock) who is now at stud in New Zealand.

Brandons Gold Coast Guineas 3 , 1200m
Race Synopsis: Classy Bjorn Baker-trained filly Champagne Cuddles scored a very good first up win, taking her most consistent record to three wins and five placings from eight starts. She settled in fifth place on the rails from her inside barrier (1), switched between runners rounding the home turn, moved up at the 200m, got the better of the leader (Whypeeo) at the 100m and drew clear to score comfortably. The favourite Whypeeo went to the front, set quite a smart tempo (first 600m 34.45) and held the lead until reaching the 100m and held on well for second, beaten a length, after running a bold race. Godolphin-raced colt Marble raced in sixth place, one off the rails, made his move (deep) on turning for home and kept running on really well for third, looking suited to further.
