Great Day For The Girls At Randwick

It was a real girl’s day out at Randwick on Monday when superstar WInx and other quality fillies and mares commanded the spotlight.

Champion mare Winx showed she was set for an autumn to remember with an awesome first up win in the G2 Apollo Stakes (1400m).

The win took on special significance as Winx Horseform emulated the legendary Phar Lap by recording 14 consecutive wins at Group level.

At her first run since her record breaking eight lengths win in the Cox Plate in October, Winx ran up to her ranking as the best turf horse in the world and will continue on to three G1 races - the Chipping Norton, George Ryder Stakes and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

A $230,000 purchase for Magic Bloodstock from the Coolmore Stud draft at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Winx has now earned her connections prizemoney of $9,491,925.

Winx, a daughter of former outstanding international sire Street Cry, was bred by the Camilleri family of Fairway Thoroughbreds and is from their stakes winning Al Akbar mare Vegas Showgirl.

OUTSTANDING filly Global Glamour held on for a thrilling win in the G2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m).

Having her first start since a gallant second in the $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, Global Glamour showed blistering speed throughout for a brilliant win.

A daughter of fellow former Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase Star Witness, Global Glamour Horseform was bred by the O'Brien family of Corinella in Victoria and sold through their Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm draft for $65,000 at the 2015 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Raced by a syndicate of ladies from around the world, Global Glamour has now earned her jubilant connections some $1,133,500.

ZESTFUL made it a memorable afternoon for Magic Millions fillies and mares when she scored a valuable win in the G3 Triscay Stakes.

A $90,000 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale bred to Northern Hemisphere time, Zestful broke through for her first win at Group level with a strong win.

Prepared by Kris Lees, Zestful Horseform is a daughter of Redoute's Choice and was offered on the Gold Coast by Bellerive Stud where she was purchased by part owner Paul Frampton. He races the filly in partnership with Widden Stud.

Zestful is a half sister to the stakes performer and producer Zedazest (dam of Zest A Second) as well as the dam of the Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Military Rose.

She is also closely related to dual G1 winner Melito, another star graduate of the Gold Coast sales ring.

EXCITING filly Invincible Gem continued the extraordinary stakes success for her sire I Am Invincible with her stunning victory in the G3 Spring Stakes (1600m).

The Kris Lees-trained filly took her record to four wins from eight starts and in the process provided her sire with his 19th stakes winner when she beat Faraway Town by an effortless 3.75 lengths.

I Am Invincible is currently lying second by earnings behind Snitzel in the Australian leading sires table with his highest earning progeny being the Magic Million 2YO Guineas winner Houtzen.

Kris Lees said he will target more stakes races with the Invincible Gem Horseform (I AM Invincible x Diamond Day by Marwina), who is the only foal to race from her dam.

The Star Apollo Stakes 3U , 1400m
Race Synopsis: Champion mare Winx was brilliant, yet again, resuming here to score her 14th successive win. She was a bit slow to move but recovered to settle in sixth place, between runners. She angled into clear running nearing the home turn. Moved up easily at the 300m, raced to the front at the 150m and then drew away to win easily, looking set for great autumn carnival campaign. Hartnell also put in a very good run, resuming here, even if overshadowed by the winner. He settled in eighth place, one off the rails. He put in a good run from the 300m, went to second at the 100m and then fought well to hold that position. Endless Drama was smartly away and settled in third place, one off the rails. He moved up well at the home turn, briefly took the lead at the 300m and then held on to take the minor placing in a sound first up run. Dibayani had a good trip in fourth place and battled on quite well to hold that position to the post, some nine lengths from the winner.
