A mare and a filly selling for $240,000 and $210,000 respectively highlighted the final day of the 2018 Great Southern Sale in Melbourne.

Arrowfield’s Jon Freyer purchased the mare Villa Rosa (Exceed And Excel x Truly Wicked) for $240,000 from Blue Gum Farm.

Randwick Bloodstock purchased stakes-winning filly Blue Morpho (Hussonet x High Butterfly) for $210,000 from the draft of Angas River Contractors.


In total, 798 horses were sold over the five days of the sale at a clearance rate of 82% and an average of $19,897 from a gross of more than $15 million.

Woodside Park Stud was the leading vendor, selling all 40 of their offerings for a gross of $1,892,400.
