Invincible Gem Horseform progressed from a Canterbury maiden victory last November to finishing second in the G1 Randwick Guineas in April prior to a spell with a G3 win in the Spring Stakes along the way.

Her return on Saturday was another achievement for trainer Kris Lees as she beat her stablemate and triple G1 winner Le Romain Horseform.

Lees now has the G2 Sheraco Stakes on September 9 pencilled in for her next start with the G2 Golden Pendant and G1 Myer Classic her main targets for the spring.

Lees said Invincible Gem continued to amaze him with her progress but was not shocked by her first-up win based on her lead up work and barrier trials.

“Last preparation she just kept surprising me. I was looking to spell her and she came through her wins so well I just kept raising the bar and she handled every step,” Lees said.

“She has been doing all of her work with Le Romain. She is a high quality mare.

“Her main aim is the Golden Pendant then hopefully we’ll get to Melbourne for the Myer,”

Invincible Gem (I Am Invincible x Diamond Day by Marwina) took her record to five wins and three seconds from 10 starts with prize money of $544,850.

A daughter of the juvenile winning mare Diamond Day, she is the only stakes winner in five generations.

Diamond Day is also the dam of Exitozo (Excites) who has won five races.

Diamond Day was not mated again after Invincible Gem was foaled until last year when she was covered by the late stallion Time For War (Snitzel).

Invincible Gem’s second dam Keep It Cool (Al Khawaaneeg) produced six foals to race for five winners including Keep It Danish (Nothin’ Leica Dane), who won seven times.

I Am Invincible, whose service fee has doubled to $110,000 this year, is the sire of 21 individual stakes winners including G1 winners Brazen Beau and I Am A Star.

R7 RANDWICK 5 August 2017
Missile Stakes 3U , 1200m
Race Synopsis: Kris Lees-trained mare Invincible Gem, resuming after her very good second in the Randwick Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) in March, scored an impressive first-up win. She settled in fifth place (between runners), switched out to track her main rival (Le Romain) on straightening, challenged at the 100m and finished too well for a very good win. Her stablemate and favourite Le Romain began well but was caught a bit deep from barrier seven, racing in fourth place. He moved up to challenge at the 200m and kept fighting on well for second in a sound first up effort. The Monstar had a nice trip in fourth place, challenged at the 200m and held on well for a very good third in this class. Boss Lane raced behind the leader (Jungle Edge), got along the inner at the 200m and battled on well for (2.2 lengths) fourth, again showing his likely for Randwick. ATC Australian Derby (Gr 1, 2400m) runner-up Harper’s Choice caught the eye running on from last at the 600m for a good first-up (3.5 lengths) fifth while Tycoon Tara missed the start, was near last to the home turn and did not threaten in finishing (5.7 lengths) sixth at her first run since winning the Tatt’s Tiara (Gr 1, 1350m) at Doomben on 24 June.
